5 Reasons Why   Fitness Junkies Make the Best Boyfriend or Girlfriend!

I’ve been in fitness centers for almost 10 years now; whether it be working as a staff member, or working out on my own time. I’ve seen just about everything there is to see in a gym, and have come across every type of person. People often judge too much at the gym; big guys laughing at and judging smaller guys who may just be starting out, fit girls mocking girls that are out of shape, and the opposite of both scenarios also happens. Smaller guys find things to mock the bigger guys, and out of shape girls tend to mock skinny girls. It’s quite frustrating, and I went out of my way to try and change this attitude at the gym where I worked. In my opinion, EVERYONE there deserves some credit. The people working out, unfortunately, are the minority. Sad truth is that nearly 70% of Americans over the age of 20 are overweight or obese, and only 20% (I rounded up to make us look better) of Americans are accessing health clubs annually.

So do me a favor: when you go to the gym, don’t judge. I’m not trying to sound like that big name gym that no one likes, but it is in everyone’s best interest if you don’t judge others at the gym. What you CAN judge about someone who goes to the gym on a consistent basis is, they’ll probably make a good boyfriend or girlfriend. This isn’t based solely on me and my relationship; rather generalizations I’ve made based on years of relationships I’ve been in, as well as my friends.

1. They care about themselves, so you don’t have to.

People that work out on a consistent basis, care about themselves. They want to look good, feel good, and be healthy. Have you ever had to nag your boyfriend or girlfriend about their weight, or how unhealthy they are? That’s not a concern with a fitness junkie, they care about themselves, so you don’t have to. It gives you more time to focus on yourself, and it’s nice to know they’ll always look good for you.

2. They’ll keep you motivated.

Comfort weight is damn near close to a swear word when you’re dating one. Fitness junkies spend one or two hours at the gym, most days of the week. Are you going to sit on the couch and watch Netflix as your GF or BF is out running, climbing mountains, or lifting weights? I sure hope not…If you’re like anyone else, seeing your significant other continuously better themselves is going to make you want to better yourself, and that’s for two reasons. First, you don’t want to lose them; irrational thoughts like “I don’t look good enough for him”, or “she’s going to leave me for a guy with better biceps” cross your mind and make you want to get in shape. Second, it’s something to do together; that two hours a day your BF or GF spends working out can become quality time that you spend together.

3. They’re not afraid of commitment.

What? Yes, you read that right. It takes commitment to keep going back, day after day, even when you don’t feel like it. Same goes for a relationship, us gym go-ers know how to stay committed to something, and someone.   They’re not going to wake up one day and think to themselves, “I don’t want to be healthy anymore”, and they’re not going to wake up and say “I’m done with them”. Maybe it’s pride, maybe it’s them being stubborn, but they’re committed and they don’t give up.

4. They’re adventurous.

You will not get bored dating a fitness junkie, and I hope you can keep up. Hiking, kayaking, running, climbing; these are all activities you can expect to do when dating one. That’s a much better list then Netflix, movies, and bowling (although I do love bowling). You’re constantly going to be pushed to do things you’ve never done, things you didn’t think you could do, things you’ll be happy you tried. This is one of the best ways to keep a relationship fresh, and exciting.

5. They’ll be your rock.

They’re usually less stressed because they release all of their negative energy and feelings via working out, leaving them more capable of being there for you. It takes a lot to break one down, and it’s nice to know you’ll always have someone to lean on, or fall if things are real bad. Also, they’ll never blow up on you, when they’re mad, they’ll work out. Just don’t make them try and talk to you … let them work it out!!!

Try it … at least once, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.




I lose focus pretty easily, probably because there are so many things that interest me. I want to do everything, see everything, go everywhere, and meet everyone. But, we all know that's not possible (so we're told). What I can do, however is share what I experience. I try my best to stay positive, but more importantly I try to spread the good vibes to everyone around me. I'm just like you. I just choose to talk about it ...
